7 Great Places to Travel if You’re Sober

Staying sober does not have to stop you from having a life filled with fun. One of the best ways to get the most out of your life is by traveling to new destinations. Traveling allows you to see the beauty of the world, learn about new cultures and have experiences that you can’t get at home. While there may be some activities and places that you will want to avoid, there are still plenty of ways to enjoy traveling without alcohol. These are the seven best places to travel if you are sober.

1. Provo, Utah

Since Provo is populated by almost exclusively members of the Mormon church, there is no drinking culture in the city. This makes it a perfect place to visit when sober. You will never have to worry about seeing hordes of drunk people in restaurants or the popular tourist destinations. Everyone visiting Provo must take in the natural beauty of the area by going to Bridal Veil Falls and Utah Lake. Watching a basketball or football game at Bringham Young University may also be your only chance to see an exciting live sporting event without having to be around a lot of people drinking.

2. Orlando, Florida

Orlando is a beloved destination for tourists around the world because of its large selection of great theme parks. Walt Disney World, Universal Studios and Sea World are just a few of the top theme parks you can visit during your time in Orlando. Whether you want to beat the heat in the water, ride exciting roller coasters or spend the day with your favorite movie characters, it can be done at the popular Orlando theme parks. The wholesome and family-friendly nature of these attractions will let you have a full day of fun without the need for alcohol.

3. Gatlinburg, Tennessee

If you are looking for a destination with a family-friendly atmosphere but are not a fan of theme parks, then Gatlinburg is the place to go. Gatlinburg maintains its small town charm despite being a major tourist destination. In addition to the Hollywood Car Museum and Ripley’s Aquarium, you will also find several theaters hosting family-oriented plays and comedy shows. Another huge benefit of this city is that it sits right next to the Great Smokey Mountains National Park.

4. San Antonio, Texas

If you have any interest in history, then San Antonio needs to be your next travel destination. The city was founded by Spanish settlers in the 17th century, so it is filled with unique architecture that can’t be found anywhere else in the United States. There may also be no spot in the country with more historical relevance than The Alamo.

5. Yellowstone National Park

One of the best ways to have fun while getting away from alcohol is by spending time in nature. While the United States is filled with beautiful natural destinations, none of them are able to top Yellowstone National Park in Wyoming. Since the park is over two million acres, you spend weeks there and not see everything. A few of the must-see spots in Yellowstone are the Grand Prismatic Spring, Old Faithful geyser and Tower Fall. Animal watching and fishing are also extremely popular activities in the park.

6. Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia

Malaysia is primarily populated by Muslims, which means that it is very hard to find alcohol. The only places that freely sell alcohol are the hotel restaurants and bars that cater to tourists. Unlike the other countries that ban alcohol sales, it is very easy to navigate Malaysia because most of the locals speak English. There are also no strict laws that can be tough for tourists to learn. The must-see sights in Kuala Lumpur are Lake Gardens and Petaling Street.

7. Tokyo, Japan

Tokyo is simply one of the greatest cities in the world. While alcohol is widely available throughout Japan, you will feel absolutely no pressure to drink during your time in the country. Unlike most of the other huge cities in the world, Tokyo does not have much of a drinking culture. This means that you can go out to a restaurant without the waiter pushing you to order a drink. Make sure to see the Imperial Palace, Meiji Shrine and the Tokyo National Museum during your time in the city.

Getting sober does not mean that you have to miss out on living an exciting life. If you are struggling with alcohol addiction, it’s essential that you get help. Visit The Recovery Village website to learn more about treatment options.
