5 Proper stun gun techniques

If you’re considering getting a stun gun, this is a great way to keep both you and your family safe. A portable stun gun is an excellent choice, since you can carry it with you anywhere- ensuring you’re always prepared.

If you’re looking for a stun gun or taser for sale, it’s a good idea to learn how to use it early on. Here are 5 proper stun gun techniques:

  1. Familiarize yourself with it

Don’t wait until an emergency to handle your stun gun. It’s important that you have the confidence to pull it out and won’t hesitate under pressure- otherwise it’s useless. Practice grabbing it from your bag and holding it in your hand. Get used to the weight, form, and shape and visualize how you would use it to take down an attacker.

  1. Keep it on safety

Your stun gun will have a safety switch, preventing you from accidentally firing it. You’ll need to keep this on when you’re not using it, but be prepared to quickly flick the switch when you need it. When you’re practicing grabbing your stun gun, make sure you also practice turning the safety off.

  1. Know how to aim

Stun guns only work if you can hit your target. Your goal is to reach any area between the waist and neck. This is the largest part of your attacker’s body, and the easiest target. Practice with a friend, until hitting this part becomes easy- even if they’re moving. If you’re in an emergency situation, it can be difficult to reach their torso, but you can still reach for parts of the body like the legs, thighs, or shoulders.

  1. Know how to Fire

Actually firing a stun gun at someone can seem overwhelming. But it’s important to remember that these are designed to disable (not kill) an attacker. You’ll need to make sure the prongs of the stun gun make contact with the aggressor. You also need to hold down the trigger for a minimum of 3 seconds, but the longer you can hold it, the more effective your stun gun will be. Even if they grab you, you won’t feel any effect from the stun gun.

  1. Have a plan

You’ll need to know what to do as soon as you’ve fired the stun gun. Once your attacker has been disabled, you’ll want to grab any weapons they had and run as fast as you can for help. Practice this in your mind so that if you are ever attacked it’s almost second nature.
